When the little trick or treaters come knocking on your door, or if you're having a Halloween party, you'll want some decorations to suit the spooky occasion. There's lots of stuff to be found in the stores, but it can get pretty expensive. Why not make your own Halloween decorations and save yourself some money? Here are some terrific ideas to get you started.
To give your visitors a real scare, why not make a life-size mummy? Take some old pants and a shirt, lay them on the floor and stuff them with newspaper. For the hands, attach a pair of gloves to the arms of the shirt, and for the head, just inflate a balloon and attach it to the collar. Then wrap the whole thing up using toilet paper or gauze. If you can spare an old white bed sheet which you can cut into strips, even better. Leave some slits near the eye area.
It's easy to create homemade bats from Styrofoam. Find a bat pattern on the internet, cut it out and position it on the foam. Then cut around it, and paint the Styrofoam black. Another option is to use black construction paper. Hang your bats from the ceiling or eaves, or stick them on your window.
Spiking the punch bowl is probably something you did back in college but for Halloween, people will surely laugh when they see a hand inside. All you need is a plastic glove; fill it with water, seal it and freeze it. When it's solid, drop it in the punch bowl to give your guests a jolt.
You might think that ketchup is the only thing around to make fake blood but you are wrong. You can also make some using a cup of corn syrup, a tablespoon of water, 2 tablespoons of red food coloring and tablespoon of yellow food coloring. Once you mix this all together, you will realize that it looks much more realistic than ketchup. Use the mixture to add ghoulish accents to your homemade Halloween decorations. - 39969
