Pirate Halloween Costumes

Pirate Girlby David Lawson

At fancy dress parties pirate costumes have become increasingly popular with both adults and children. It is not difficult to put an outfit together very cheaply. The most basic of costumes could incorporate old trousers, a white top and possibly a belt and a homemade eye patch. Everyone has a pair of boots they could use.

Cutting up old trousers gives it a very worn authentic look. Too this you could add a flowing white shirt or blouse, with a belt around your middle, you may choose to put a waistcoat on or not. You could also add a long fitted coat if you have one, a velvet one would be ideal. To finish the look, add bashed up old boots or pointy boots.

There are more options if you are female. You could either wear the trousers outfit or you could go for something more feminine such as a dress or skirt and top. Whichever you pick ensure the bottom of the skirt is jagged or a handkerchief hemline for an older effect and you could also get away with a boned top.

The black paint or dark brown can be smeared around for an authentic pirate look. For adults you can adopt the same type of costume as for children, just use the same principles when it comes to finding old clothes to wear. If you don't have old clothes, all you would need to buy would be a pair of black cotton trousers, a baggy white shirt, a waistcoat is optional, most people have these in their wardrobes.

Older girls and women can usually utilize something in their wardrobe for use as an outfit, a shiny party skirt with an uneven hemline would be ideal, this could be either stripey or shiny or even plain black. Fishnet tights and mid calf boots would compliment a more grown up look. You can then start to add items such as hats.

If you do not want to use your old clothes and cut them up then you can buy versions of pirate costumes in fancy dress shops. Some of the outfits you can buy are very authentic and look fantastic. The head gear that pirates wear ranges from the basic bandana through to wide hats with a skull and cross bone on the front. - 39969
